The movie stars “Supergirl” and “Wayward Pines” actor Emma Tremblay as Itsy, a high schooler and aspiring journalist whose interest is piqued when she moves to a small town where she discovers a classmate who’s really into outer space. Like, really into outer space. Calvin (Jacob Buster, “Let the Right One In”) is a floppy-haired literal boy next door who dresses up in an astronaut suit at school — complete with, for some reason, nunchucks. Honestly, every school had a kid who is vaguely like this, and I love that “Aliens Abducted My Parents And Now I Feel Kinda Left Out” posits that he’s quirky for a specific reason: because maybe aliens really did abduct his parents (Forte and Elizabeth Mitchell).
Though the journey Itsy and Calvin go on will no doubt be emotional, the trailer for “Aliens Abducted My Parents And Now I Feel Kinda Left Out” has some genuinely funny moments, like when Itsy’s new teacher stops her from talking about her hopes and dreams by saying, “That’s too ‘new kid at school!’ Just tell us three things you think are cheugy.” The script for “Aliens Abducted my Parents” comes from “Secondhand Hearts” writer Austin Everett, while “Christmas Time” filmmaker Jake Van Wagoner directs. The film is available via Sundance online for U.S. ticket holders, but since it hasn’t made a distribution deal at the festival yet, there is no official release date to report at this time.
