Céline Sciamma is going back to back with films added to The Criterion Collection, following her masterful “Portrait of a Lady on Fire,” which also wound up on this year’s Sight and Sound list. Her follow-up, “Petite Maman,” is a stunning and devastating look at the relationship between a mother and daughter, and was nominated by the Film Independent Spirit Awards for Best International Film in 2022. If she keeps up this pace, Sciamma will soon be able to constitute her own shelf in the famed Criterion Closet.
The final film added to the collection is Ruben Östlund’s Palm d’Or winner, “Triangle of Sadness” which boasts a career-best performance by Dolly De Leon. The film won every major award at the European Film Awards including European Film, European Director, European Actor, and European Screenwriter.
Ultimately, the fact that all five of these films were picked up by Criterion Collection is a testament to NEON’s keen eye for great cinema, and all of our wallets are going to feel a little lighter once they become available for purchase.
